Target unveils $1B store remodeling plan

January 22, 2010No Comments

Target is investing $1B into store remodels this year as part of a more extensive 10-year strategic plan. The Wall Street Journal also reports plans to build fewer than 10 new locations in 2010 compared to last year when nearly 60 new stores were opened in the year through October.

The retailer has also announced plans to expand its stores outside the U.S. and to develop and test a smaller store format for urban areas domestically.

Walmart is also in the midst of a remodeling initiative in many of its locations, experimenting with new layouts, signage, lighting and color schemes. They’ve also experimented with alternative store formats with their Neighborhood Market and Supermercado concepts.
